Effect of Tizanidine on Spasticity in Pediatric Patients with Cerebral Palsy: A Systematic Review

Purpose Cerebral palsy (CP) is a permanent, non-progressive disorder of the developing brain. Tizanidine an effective treatment for spastic CP; however, insufficient evidence exists regarding its effect on motor function and side-effect profile. This review explored effects safety tizanidine in treating spasticity among pediatric patients with CP. Methods Two reviewers conducted literature search. The Cochrane risk bias tool 14-item National Institutes Health Quality Assessment Tool were used to evaluate bias. A systematic was performed relevant studies. Results Five studies included: three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) two observational control group received placebo RCTs, while baclofen remaining dosage duration varied across reports, except Excepting one study, associated greater improvement modified Ashworth scale. Pain reduction also compared placebo, as evidenced by RCT. Three evaluating gross reported superior results baclofen.
